The story about this course

This course had it’s beginning in many places. One was in the spring of 2021 when Lotta Fröjdfeldt was taking a course about teaching and sustainability in higher education, given by Södertörn University. The final assignment was to create a course or develop a course further. As Lotta had earlier been involved in the course Open Networked Learning, she saw possibilities to use this Course as a base for a course about didactics for sustainability. So creating a draft of this course became her “student product”.

Why this?

Well, the base of Open Networked Learning (ONL) is PBL group work. And the concept is very self-directed. Like a wicked problem you could say. In the course you have to navigate yourself and your group and find YOUR way of learning about the topics.

The collaboration

In the summer of 2021 Lotta posted in different communities to find collaborators. In the autumn we met in Zoom and discussed the idea. Mulitple Swedish universities were interested. In the spring of 2022 a focus group was established with the universities that wanted to start a course soon. We set a goal to start a pilot of the course before the end of 2022. We also got funding from UHR for this, and started to plan for a first “real” iteration of the course in the spring of 2023. The collaborators were: Mälardalen universityLinköping UniversityMid Sweden University and Karlstad university.

To the pilot of the course many Swedish universities joined. And the story continues…
